Dave’s 2010 Superfrog Half Ironman Triathlon Report
I DID IT!!! “It” just happens to be the Superfrog Half Ironman Triathlon. Here’s my report…
For the past three years, I have had my eye on this triathlon race above all others. Sponsored by the U.S. Navy SEALs, and benefitting the Naval Special Warefare Foundation (NSWF), it includes a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and a 13.1 mile run. The NSWF is a non-profit (501c) organization established to honor all who have served in the sea commando services from WWII to today’s SEAL Teams. It’s focus is to provide educational and motivational support, promote health and welfare, and perpetuate the history and heritage of U.S. Naval Commandos to families and the Naval Special Warfare Community. I grew up near the home of SEAL Team 1 and wanted to be a part of their race.
Here is my video recap of the race:
The race was tough. As I said in the video, I’m glad I did it, but I’m also glad it’s done. I’m not exactly sure what the future holds for me in the triathlon realm. I think I’ll continue to do the San Diego International Triathlon, which I have done the past two years. But, I’m not sure I’ll do a lot of other races. Instead, I think I’ll focus on cycling.
What I discovered during this process is that I really love cycling. It goes beyond riding my own bike. I love watching the pro tour, the Spring Classics, and the Grand Tours. It is an amazing sport and one that I want to do more of. Triathlon has been a very challenging experience and I’m ready for something a little different.
As I explain in my video, the next workout adventure is another round of Insanity. I need to get back the burst that I had before in order to become a stronger cyclist. I’m looking forward to the challenge.
