Dave’s Ski Workout
Anyone who knows me knows I am passionate about skiing. I wanted to share the ski workout I do to prepare for ski season so I can get the most out of my time on the slopes.
First of all, I hate “leg day” in my Beachbody workouts. But, obviously, it’s a crucial component of any ski workout so skipping or skimping here is not an option. I have found a way to incorporate my passion for skiing into leg day, which makes it a lot more appealing to me and keeps me fired up. The secret is ski poles.
Incorporating ski poles into my ski workout keeps me dialed into my primary motivation, which is to rock the slopes during every season. The result is that I work out better, longer and harder.
The other reason I use poles in my ski workout is that it helps me work on a common mistake many skiers make—popping up and getting in the back seat (an unfortunate side effect of pole planting). Can you relate? Staying out in front of the skis is a constant challenge. Using my poles during my pre-season workouts helps me establish some muscle memory with my poles in the proper position, so I have better habits when I’m out on the powder.
In this video, I’ll show you how I use my ski poles and a box to do step lunges and lateral stepping as part of my ski workout—again, always focusing on keeping the poles in the proper position. I add in some weights to push harder and feel the burn.
I’d love to hear about your favorite ski workout—just share it in a comment below. Variety is awesome. And, if you have one you’d like me to do a video on, just click the button below and message me your suggestion.
Now, go forth, get to your ski workout, and conquer that mountain!
