How Not to Isolate Yourself
Do you have a tendency to want to go solo? If so, then you’re like me. Let’s talk a little about how not to isolate yourself.
There was a time in my life—not so very long ago—when I isolated myself. I was pretty sure everyone around me was out to screw me, so I just didn’t let anyone get near me. After my Dad died, in late 2007, it got worse. Then, some crazy things started to happen in my life and things began to change.
First, I took full responsibility for it. I stopped pointing fingers at other people and spent more time looking in the mirror.
Second, I stopped doing work that I didn’t like and started doing something that I was passionate about. Yes, it sucked in the beginning. I had no idea what I was doing or whether it would work. But, look at me now.
Third, I started making friends. I started to understand that most people were struggling with exactly the same things I was. Some of them were ahead of me in handling it, while others were behind. I learned from those ahead of me and have attempted to teach those behind me. In case you don’t know, this is Jimmy Hays Nelson with me in the picture. He’s my buddy. I could say a lot more, but suffice it to say – if you want to be an Eagle, don’t hang with Pigeons. Pigeons aren’t fast enough and they aren’t willing to kill to eat. They’re content to scavenge. Being an Eagle is scary at times. But, when you know someone has your back, it is a hell of a lot easier.
Being a part of an incredible team of passionate entrepreneurs was the main impetus for many massive changes in my life over the past decade. Like I’m teaching you how not to isolate yourself, my mentors at Beachbody did the same for me.
