Indoor Cycling to Lose Weight
Do you want to lose weight, build muscle mass, and increase your fitness levels? You’re in luck! Indoor cycling checks all of these boxes.
Let’s look at indoor cycling to lose weight…
Indoor Cycling and Weight-Loss Benefits
If you’re a regular reader of my blog (Dave’s Corner), you already know how much I LOVE cycling. Today, I want to talk to you specifically about why indoor cycling is so great if you’re looking to lose some weight.
Indoor cycling can definitely help you lose weight—and, I want to tell you why.
➡️ Boosts Cardio Fitness Level
Like any cardio you choose, you’ll get out of indoor cycling what you put into it. Work it hard and you’re going to really boost your cardio fitness levels.
One way of gauging this is through the use of a heart monitor. (The MYX Fitness Bike comes with a Polar OH1 heart rate monitor.)
The more you get your heart pumping, the better your cardio fitness level. Cardio burns calories and indoor cycling burns calories like mad.
A good heart-pumping indoor cycling session can burn 600 calories or more!

➡️ Builds Lower Body Strength
The best indoor cycling workouts to lose weight are those that work your legs hardest. Why? Because your legs are a large muscle group. The more you train your large muscle groups, the better your metabolism—even at rest.
So be sure and ramp up your bike’s resistance if you want to build those muscles and benefit from the increased muscle mass.
It’s possible to develop better leg muscles through indoor cycling than running, depending on how much resistance you add.
And, please don’t worry about getting thick leg muscles. Building your leg muscles gives you beautiful muscular legs and helps your body burn fat faster.
Speaking of burning body fat…
➡️ Burns Body Fat
The best indoor bike for weight loss is the bike you’ll love riding again and again! I love the new MYX Fitness bike for indoor cycling!
Between the cardio and the lower body strength, you can bet that the answer to “Is indoor cycling good for weight loss?” Is a definite “YES!”
Burn mad calories while cycling and then reap the benefits of a continued increased metabolism through those strong leg muscles.
Indoor Cycling Workouts to Lose Weight
Is your main goal for indoor cycling to lose weight? Then, I’ve got some indoor cycling tips for you!
➡️ Proper Before and After Nutrition
You knew this was coming…you’ll never lose weight if you don’t give yourself the proper nutrition.
Learning to eat the right types of food in the proper amounts is key to maintaining your weight. Beachbody has a couple outstanding programs designed with weight maintenance in mind.
Be sure and check out the Ultimate Portion Fix and 2B Mindset! Both of them will help you make the right lifestyle changes to live the life you want.
When it comes to indoor cycling, eat something small about 30 minutes before you ride. This gives you the energy you need to push yourself during your workout.
Try a combination of protein and carbs, such as a small apple with some almond butter. Make sure you drink plenty of water before and during your indoor cycling session.
About an hour after your workout, eat a small handful of nuts and a pear or apple. This is a good combination of carbs and protein to keep your muscles and metabolism smoothly operating.

➡️ Vary Your Workouts
This pertains to two types of variation…
You want to switch up your workouts from day to day and you want to vary the pace and difficulty during every workout.
During the workout, vary your pace and resistance. Do some comfortable pedaling but also throw in some tough resistance for interval training.
The body is incredibly adaptable. You need to push it out of the comfort zone to keep it burning calories and fat. If you do the same workout day after day, your body won’t burn as many calories as it did when you first started.
This is where live streaming classes like the ones we have in the Beachbody On Demand Program are a big help! A trainer encourages you to push past your comfort zone and that gives you a better workout.
Even if you’re great about varying the intensity and resistance during your workout, be sure and do different types of workouts on a day-to-day basis.
Add in some resistance training off the bike to build more than your leg muscles. You want to work all the big muscle groups in your body. This includes the shoulders, chest, and back, as well as the legs.
No Excuses!
Indoor cycling to lose weight is fun and convenient. Once you’ve got the right bike, you’ve got no excuses! With Beachbody’s new MYX II bike, all you need is right there in your home.
